Crystal Therapy

Origins and historical development :

Crystals are useful in every day life, such as crystallised salt and sugar; ice in the freezer and vitamin C and aspirin also being crystallised. Cameras and televisions work because of crystals, a calculator’s display is ‘liquid crystal’ and watches contain tiny quartz crystals to keep time. However, crystals can also help maintain homeostasis in the body; and treat common conditions and ailments. These include digestive problems, allergies, arthritis, blood pressure problems, hormone imbalances, insomnia, headaches and stress.

What to expect during a treatment :

Most practitioners use the healing energy within crystals together with chakras, auras and acupressure points. Crystals will often be simply placed directly onto the affected area of the client’s body to have the healing energy channelled from the crystal. Alternatively, the practitioner may hold a particular crystal in one hand, while placing a hand on the client’s body. The practitioner may also recommend certain crystals for the client to carry on them, or place in a particular room in the home.

Typical examples include Orange Carnelian which is a protective crystal that encourages positive vibrations and can be placed by the front door to invite abundance into your life. Amethyst is said to heal pain when placed directly on the affected area and can be worn around the neck to instil a feeling of peace.

Conditions suitable for treatment :

When atoms of a solid material are arranged in a regular pattern, the resultant matter is referred to as a crystal. From the Greek word ‘kyros’, meaning icy, came ‘krystallos’ which is the basis for ‘crystal’. At one time, the colourless quartz known as rock crystal was thought to be ice that would not melt because it had frozen so hard.

For Centuries, crystals have been renowned throughout the world for their therapeutic and mysterious qualities, storing healing energy which is then radiated out. The world was believed to stand on a giant sapphire in Persian mythology and its reflection gave the sky its colour. Legends tell of crystals having fantastic medicinal properties; being symbols of power and even a source of curse to bring about disaster. In the Bible the High Priest of Israel was described as having a breast plate set with 12 gem stones, while Vikings were said to navigate the seas using transparent crystals as a compass; and migratory birds are thought to have minute magnetic crystals that detect the Earth’s magnetic field to guide them in their travels.

Crystals are particularly popular with modern day spiritual healers to help with both physical and emotional problems.
